Detailed explanation of crochet hooks

This post i am going to explain detaily about Crochet hooks, their sizes, forms and measurement.





Crochet hooks:

   Crochet hooks are basically needed for crocheting. These hooks are available in many forms, sizes and materials. You can buy them as a set or as an individuals.  You can find these in most craft shops, but in India, it is very difficult to get these hooks especially in Tamil Nadu where all shops only have the basic normal steel hook and there's no size written there except number 9 or 11.

But you can get these hooks from online shops like Amazon, Flipkart, Ponycraftsstore, Pradhan embroidery store, etc..

These hooks are available in steel, aluminium, plastic, fibre, glass, bamboo, wood, etc..

Sizes:
          Crochet hooks comes in many sizes.. Starting from 0.1mm to 25/30mm or even bigger sizes..

Depends on its uses and forms its differentiated as follows,

  • Basic Crochet Hooks:
                                 
                                   These are the standard sizes of hooks starts from 2.00mm to 8.00mm hooks.. These are basically suited for the beginners.. You can get this basic crochet hooks here. Crochet hooks also can be mentioned in letters (USA measurement) or metric or numbers (UK measurement).. They are representated as follows

  • Thread Crochet Hooks






                             These are the smaller size hooks below 2.00mm. Thread hooks are mostly made on steel. These are mainly used with thread yarns and has very tiny hook. Advance crocheters mostly use this. These hooks are mostly used for crocheting  doilies, thread patterns like dresses, lace, etc. Below is the measurement chart for normal and thread crochet hooks. You can get this here





Ergonomic Crochet Hooks
                                                     
                                As name suggests these hooks are made with soft grip. Sometimes people find difficult to work with normal crochet hooks. So they opt out for this ergonomic hooks. These are made with a firm grip that will make a person to hold easier and crochet faster without any pain. These hooks are especially made for people who has carpel tunnel or wrist pain or arthritis pain. You can get this here.




Light Crochet Hooks
                                 
                                These hooks are the recent inventions of modern crochet world. These are designed especially for night owls, persons who wanted to crochet at night but don’t want to disturb others can use this hooks.. These are mostly made in glass or fibre plastic and has light at the tip of the hook. You can get this here



Tunisian Crochet Hook
                                         
                                  These hooks are also called as Afghan Crochet Hooks. These are very longer and may have two hooks at both ends or one hook at one end. As name suggests these hooks are mostly used for Afghan spreads or place mats. Crocheting with this hook creates a pattern similar like knitting. You can get this here











Knook
           
                      This is something like Tunisian crochet hook but it has a hole on other end in which you can thread a yarn and crochet. These also create a pattern like knitting. You can get this here
